You don't need to be in crisis to come to counselling

Evenly spaced horizontal lines on a cream background, with a few near the centre drifting gently out of line, one in terracotta.

Many people think counselling is for when life becomes too hard to manage.

Sometimes that is what brings someone to seek support. Something has happened, and they’re struggling to get through the day. But that isn’t everyone’s experience.

Some people come because they keep noticing familiar patterns in their relationships. Others feel frustrated or disconnected without being sure why. Some are facing a decision or going through a change.

Nothing has to be falling apart.

You don’t have to arrive with an answer

Many people feel they should know what to talk about before they start.

You don’t.

You can begin with what’s been happening lately, a conversation that stayed with you, or something you’ve been thinking about but haven’t found the words for.

What you want to talk about often becomes clearer as you talk.

Room to talk without rushing

Counselling gives you time to talk things through.

That might mean exploring something painful, looking at a familiar pattern differently, or talking about something you haven’t said out loud before.

You don’t need to leave with a solution.

You don’t have to wait until things feel unmanageable to begin counselling.

The Listening Finch offers counselling in Camperdown, Sydney, and online. If something has been on your mind for a while, you’re welcome to get in touch.
