A soft, unclear form slowly taking shape within a neutral background

When you're not sure what you feel

Sometimes counselling begins with making space for feelings that are hard to name.

Some people arrive at counselling unsure of what they feel.

They may know that something is not quite right. They may feel tired, tense, unsettled, or disconnected. They may know that certain situations affect them, but find it hard to say exactly how.

That uncertainty can feel frustrating.

There can be pressure to explain yourself clearly, to know what is wrong, or to arrive with a feeling already named. But feelings do not always appear in a neat or obvious way.

Sometimes they are quiet. Sometimes they are mixed. Sometimes they are buried underneath what needs to be done, what others need, or what has helped you keep going.

If you have spent a long time managing things, it may make sense that your feelings are not always easy to access.

You may be more used to noticing what other people need. You may move quickly into thinking, explaining, problem-solving, or minimising. You may know how to function, but not always how to pause and ask what is happening inside.

Counselling can offer a space to slow that process down.

Not to force a feeling to appear, or to make you speak before you are ready, but to gently notice what is present. A thought. A sensation. A hesitation. A familiar response. A quiet sense that something needs attention.

Sometimes feelings become clearer when they are given enough space.

They may not arrive all at once. They may emerge gradually, through conversation, reflection, and being listened to without pressure.

You do not need to know exactly what you feel before beginning counselling.

Not knowing can be part of the work.

Sometimes the beginning is simply having a place where something unclear is allowed to take shape.

If it has been hard to name what you are feeling, you are welcome to get in touch.
